A Toast, to a FAVRE Different Season!!!!!

Every year at this time it's the same feeling, thank God it's football season. I think the biggest reason I love it is because it's all even. Every team is 0-0. You look at the Jets $140M spending spree this spring and I think you have to at least feel good about it. Then I got out to a couple of practices and I felt great about it. Great about Kris Jenkins, about Faneca. As a big college ball fan I frankly feel better about Keller than I did about Gholston. In the end though, I just like how the Jets are built right now.

It took me convincing about 3 weeks ago about the idea of Favre. I personally always stuck up for and frankly respected Chad. All of a sudden a die hard Cowboys fan and friend of mine is what changed me. He put it as basic as could be with no agenda, "would you rather 2 more years of Pennington or two years of Favre?" And with that I was done. I wanted Favre.
All of a sudden it was done. In the transer of Wednesday to Thursday this week, I get a text that Favre was a Jet. It woke me up and I jumped around like Santa stopped at Hofstra and dropped off all I could want in 2008. And you know what, maybe he did!

The biggest thing Favre requested at the press conference, which was ignored by every paper, was great to me. After multiple questions of the Green Bay stalemate he asked for no more questions about that situation. NY media living up to reputation wouldn't let the drama go and he basically said I will answer the questions now as long as you don't ask my new team about it. Leader. He didn't promise one first down this year, but with that he lived up to his billing of being the biggest name to wear green and white since Namath.

In all this commotion, I just found out Pennington's a Dolphin. Reading his final Jets press conference I realazied something I never recognized before. When you read his responses, Chad is as usual the straight and true, right thing to say guy. What I realized is that every one of his answers are responses that Favre, Bradshaw, Montana, Aikman, and regrettably Brady would NEVER say. They were to busy winning...

Jets v Dolphins in week 1. I can't say it better than the movie "There's Something About Mary"........
-- What the hell is Brett Favre doing here?
-- I'm in town to play the Dolphins you dumb ass

Favre vs Pennington, Miami, 85 and humid...

SCRAP HEAP NOTES:
If you watched the Browns game then you saw Ratliff to Clowney (twice). The last practice I saw two weeks ago, when the signings were done, those two ran that first touchdown flag route about 20 times with no other player to be scene. Good to see the effort payed off.

For Jets fans everywhere

Since the Steelers game we Jets fans have been taking a lot of grief as a result of the gate D spiral fiasco. I've been going to Jets games regularly for close to 10 years and I've never heard of this stuff until I read about it in the paper and apparently I'm not alone. At any rate, every day I'm reading another letter from some highbrow Giants fan about what knuckle dragging lowlifes we are. Funny, but every time a Giants fan hangs out with us, I hear the same thing: Geez- you guys sure know how to tailgate!. Anyway, I was feeling poetic tonight so this one's for all of us Jets fans-

An Ode To The Jets Fan

On Sundays we come to see them play,
These Titans of the game
In wind and snow
Through fog and sleet,
And November's frigid rain
We drink the beer
We eat the meat
We huddle by the fire
We burn opponents uniforms
In a ritual funeral pyre
Through Ewbank, Winner, Shipp and Holtz
Holovak, Walt and Joe
We came to games
And screamed their names
And told them where to go
Coslet, Carroll, Kotite too,
Then came the savior Bill
He won some games
And brought us fame
And gave us all a thrill
Then Hess expired
The Tuna retired
And Bellichick ran for the hills
A man named Woody bought the team
Now he pays all the bills
We got Al Groh
But he was quick to go
And some guy named Herm was hired
He had his run
We had some fun
But he quit before he was fired
So North they went, to find a coach
And came back with Mangini
In season one he was the man, but this year he's no genie!
In recent weeks, we've taken grief
From our landlords who wear blue
They say we act like animals
And belong in a zoo
They say we have no dignity, no manners and no class
To this I say you Giants fans can kiss my green and white ass!
Somehow, some way, through thick and thin
We will rise above it
For we shall always scream real loud-
LEARN TO LIVE IT, LEARN TO LOVE IT!

Bad Decisions Surrounding You Too?

Have you noticed the absurd number of bad decisions surrounding NY sports lately? Mets and Jets fans saw quite a few weeks of them. Yankees fans just watched their team act like the Mets. Where does it end? It does not end until the decisons makers of these teams follow the words of my high school defensive coordinator and "get their heads out of their asses!"

Hopefully by the time you read this Joe Torre will be fired. More importantly, hopefully by the time you read this Coach Ex-Manginious will have announced that Kellen Clemons is starting against the Eagles. That's right, I have converted. I stood by Chad for alot of games, but I too am now done. I am ready for the gunslinger. I am ready to be down by 10 and sort of excited that we could still come back because of the deep ball. My 10 year old nephew started at saftey this week for his pee wee team. You know what, I think he could have taken that ball to the house too!

I am not just done with Chad though. I am done with Bob Sutton too. Is there any excuse for why there is ZERO pressure on any quarterback ever? I am trying to compile a wish list for which pass rusher I want this off season and I finally figured it out, ANYBODY. Heck can we get Gastineau back? They did promise to search under every rock right?

Oh and a big thank you to Kevin Dyson. I haven't seen patty cake like that since 2nd grade in the timeout corner.

I can only listen to players say they will watch the tape and fix it so much. This is a harsh reality of non-creativeness. I just can't figure out how Art Shell, a 6'5 300 lb. black man snuck into Brian Schotttenheimer's body and completely changed our offensive philosophy overnight. We did sign Thomas Jones right? We did sign Darian Barnes a bruising full back right? We are permitted to have a running game right? Pete Kendall was a good move still right?

Let's make some changes on all fronts, otherwise can we at least get a play to win the game speech for old time sake.

Pennington Ankle Means Day of the DUCK!!!

So word on the street is that Pennington's ankle is out. Lets see if the Duck from way of the Pacific Northwest can handle Ray "I should be in jail" Lewis and company. This should be an exciting weekend for all those bums who cheered when Pennington was hurt on Sunday.

Lets do a quick review, how many starting quarterbacks have winning records in the NFL over the past 7 years? Answer, less than 8 and Chad is one of them. Be careful what you wish for Gang Green.

Clemens does bring soemthing to the table unlike the last time we had this adventure. Let's not start selling #11 jersey's just yet though.

How about this SCANDAL of the video tape. What a loser the former HC of the NYJ's is. That guy already had no class. He just sunk andother forty feet below sea level. F the PATS!!!

Lace 'Em Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So it has been one heck of an off season. I for one was done with the Kendall saga about 10 minutes into it. Right now there are plenty of questions, plenty of nay Sayers, plenty of doubters. Will Thomas Jones work out? Will we finally stop the run? How will the o line perform with a rookie left guard who played tackle at a D2 school? Will Pennington hold up for the season. The reason we have to play all 16 games is to get the answers to those questions.

The keys to the season are very simple. Offense line must play sound. Defensive line needs to build off the moment of the last half of last year. And of course, they need to take the ball away more than they give it away.

The offensive line needs to play well every snap. This is something that has to come by playing games together. Probably going to get some grey hair early this season from the offensive line but I believe they will be a sound unit. Brick had personal training from Lomas Brown this summer. Mangold is as solid as centers come. The right side of the line has continuity in Moore and Clement.

Defensive line is the biggest question mark. Kenyon Coleman got a lot of money for a non-starter. He needs to play big and keep to his role. I was surprised Bobby Hamilton didn’t make the team. There is good depth though at end. Eric Hicks will be a fan favorite early, watch for #77. So the clog needs to come from the rotation of Robertson, Pouha and Mosely. The NT in the 34 defense pretty much dictates the flow of the game.

Takeaways have to outnumber giveaways. The largest contributor to takeaways is pressure from the defensive line. Pressure the quarterback and they make mistakes. Chad should be less interception prone in year 2 of this offense. Thomas Jones has a very good record of ball handling so that adds to what he brings the offense. Keep this ratio in the Jets favor and we will be happy with the season.

Jets Pats opening day. What more can you ask for? Lace em up and lets play.
